An important announcement from DLTA President to all Alabama Licensed Title Agents:

In the July edition of The Alabama Lawyer, the General Counsel of the Alabama State Bar issued an opinion stating that the continuing education component of the Title Insurance Act 2012-397 does not apply to those lawyers licensed to practice law in Alabama who are also licensed title insurance agents.   It is important to understand that this opinion is contrary to the law as written and has no effect in modifying what the Alabama Department of Insurance requires to hold and maintain a title insurance agent license in the State of Alabama.   As the law currently stands, any agent or employee who signs commitments, endorsements and policies of title insurance in the state of Alabama must be licensed by the Alabama Department of Insurance and must comply with the ALDOI continuing education requirements set forth in the Act.

All DLTA educational courses offered at the Alabama Title Schools, the DLTA Midyear Meeting and the DLTA Annual Convention are approved in advance by both the Alabama State Bar and the Alabama Department of Insurance, unless otherwise noted.  For Alabama attorneys, this results in the opportunity to obtain CLE (ASB) & CE (ALDOI) credits simultaneously for each education course attended.
